Introduction
This year marks my 14th year in education. Over the years I have had the pleasure of teaching and co-teaching mathematics, and one year of science, to kids from elementary all the way to high school. I even served one year as a special education teacher in 8th grade math. For the past couple of years I have served as the Math Coach for Locust Grove High School. In addition to teaching, I have worn many other hats throughout my career including being a department chair, focus team leader, and POINT representative. I have also been a part of the leadership teams at Locust Grove Middle and High School as well as a member of the design team for Locust Grove High School, a 2016 Cohort school.
As you can see I love the field of mathematics, but what I truly enjoy is motivating and inspiring learners of all ages. It gives me great delight to collaborate with others, especially in this time of personalized learning. There is nothing more rewarding than seeing the excitement that comes over a person when the proverbial light bulb turns on, whether it be an administrator, teacher, student, or parent.
When I am not working at school, I am busy raising a family of my own. My wife, Tamie Mason, also works in the school system for Impact Academy and we celebrated our 20th anniversary back in June. We have 3 fantastic children, all boys. Eddie is a junior at Locust Grove High School. Hunter is a sophomore, and Levi is a 6th grader at Locust Grove Middle. When I am not playing chauffeur to my kids, I love to play golf and watch movies. But most of the time we are at a soccer park, basketball court, or production of the next big play. Although hectic, I wouldn’t trade it for the world.
As many of my colleagues have stated, I too agree that we must make learning relevant to our students. As our society changes, we should adapt. We must incorporate technology and other innovative practices to personalize learning so that our students will be college, career, and life ready when they graduate. I look forward to working with those willing to take a chance in an effort to achieve great success.
